Stacey Yvonne Ewell, 68, passed away peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, August 7, 2024 in Lynchburg, Virginia.

A determined and successful woman, Stacey was born on April 8, 1956 to James Watson Owens, Jr. and Myrtle Stocks Owens. After graduating from John Yeates High School in Suffolk, Stacey worked in various positions in the health care and insurance industries. She was also an avid animal lover, an award-winning equestrian, and a passionate entrepreneur.

In 1977, Stacey married Alton K. Ewell Jr., with whom she shared two daughters, Kara and Amy. Their family resided in Surry County, before returning to Suffolk in 1996, where they purchased her childhood home, Meadowbrook Farm.

In 2005, Stacey embarked on a beautiful second chapter of life with her cherished friend Rosalino Juarez Gomez and relocated to Lynchburg. Her final years were filled with love, laughter and the warmth of her extended family.

Stacey is survived by two children Kara Ewell and Amy Gutierrez (husband Humberto Gutierrez) and three grandchildren, Jamie Reidinger, Anabell Gutierrez, and Adriana Gutierrez. She is also survived by a sister Shelia Hardison; and beloved family friends Rosalino and Sally Gomez, Karla and Jorge Sanchez, along with their children.

Stacey is preceded in death by her parents Myrtle and J.W. Owens.

She did not want a traditional funeral and thoughtfully prearranged for her own final wishes. The family is making plans for a private celebration of life to be held on Friday, August 16 in Norfolk.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make an in memoriam donation to The Eclectus Ark, which is an eclectus conservation organization founded by Stacey’s close friend Laurella Desborough. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Stacey, her family, and friends.
